Round 4 we welcomed the Redlegs to Essex Heights with our inaugral Ladies Day function taking place.

Juniors: Almost a full team!
Today the Ashwood Tackers played with almost a full team. We had 17 amazing players on the ground. It is fantastic that 4 weeks into the competition after starting with only 13 players and needing to borrow players from the other teams we are now fielding almost a full team. We had 3 new players this week with Morgan, Declan and Caeden playing their first game for the Magpies. Well done boys it was great to have you on board. It was a tight battle today with the score Ashwood 4pts, St Bedes/Mentone Tigers 1 goal / 4points . This week was umpire appreciation week and the two teams lined up for a guard of honour and high 5’s with the umpire as he came out.(only time you can touch and umpire without being fined!). A big thanks to Michael Reid who stepped up to the coaching role in the absent of Head Coach Tim Elliott, a great job done for you first tackers game. Best players: Travis Pemberton, Ciaran Bowring, Connor Wall, Morgan Birch and Sebastian Rapley.

Reserves: With numbers dwindling, the reserves called in seasoned campaigners, first gamers & even an overseas import to fill the side. Ineffective kicking wasted our early chances while Dandenong made the most of theirs.
Coming out after half time with scores locked, we were able to assert some scoreboard authority in the third quarter & continue that on until the final siren. Richie Ellis continued his good start to life at Ashwood, with Alfie running strong all day. Old timers; Blunners, Jp & Hatters all chimed in aswell.

Seniors: With the weather turning for the worst, the seniors came out blazing & quickly built up a first quarter lead. In heavy conditions the second quarter became an arm wrestle, with Sugar climbing the light tower to reign in one of the finest marks seen by the Ashwood faithful in many years.
Withstanding efforts by a fired up Dandenong in the third quarter, we carried on our way and ran it out to the final siren, much to the appreciation of the ladies function cheering us from the ground. Gav Blizzard best all day, with Bergs hitting his straps around the ground. Strong defence, hard/tough midfield efforts & creative attack got us a memorable win. Lets build from here boys & continue on our way in 2012.

Ladies Day was a complete success, thank you to all involved for the efforts & attendance. We look forward to seeing you all at the next function & beyond.

After a weekend away, we shall again congratulate Sticks for bringing up his 50th game this week, good to have you back buddy.
